First Post..

I am in the first steps of applying to Consulant office in Atlanta, GA. I don't seem to be able to get past phone system to ask a few general questions.. So here goes;

1. What do you put in the Personal Data Form. Is it a actual form or one you do in letter form, and what do you put into it. Is this info available in detail, on any Web site?

2. Who do you use to comply with the request for proof of No Criminal Record. Your local Police force, State- federal or who? The locals will have no idea what I am asking for...

Do I go for one year visa at consulate or start with a 90 day tourist visa? Any ideas would be appreciated!

Hi Jay

When I lived in Maryland I used the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, DC to apply for my "retirement" visa. They were very helpful and the process took only 2 days after I submitted all the required information. The embassy website is at http://www.thaiembdc.org/index.htm. The information there is complete and you can download and print all required forms.

From their website:

2. Documents for the Application. (requiring 3 sets in original)

2.1 A passport valid no less than one year and a half.

No problem

2.2 Three copies of a Visa Application Form (with photos).

You can download and print the form, fill it out and submit with 2"x2" photos. You don't need to attach the photos, they will do that.

2.3 A Personal Data Form.

You can download and print the form, fill it out and submit with the Visa Application Form

Comment: I filled out all the information I knew, and this was fine. I think that they use this form for for all visas and some of the information asked for is not required for the retirement visa.

2.4 A copy of a bank statement showing a deposit at the amount equal to no less than 800,000 Baht, or an income certificate (an original copy) with a monthly salary of no less than 65,000 Baht, or a deposit account plus a monthly income of no less than 800,000 Baht a year.

2.5 In the case of the bank statement, a letter of guarantee from the bank (an orginal copy) is to be shown as well.

I brought a bank statement which I had downloaded and printed from my bank's website and I also brought a letter from my bank supporting the bank statement. The currency was of course US dollars, and the embassy used the current exchange rate to see if the amount was sufficient (greater than 800,000 baht).

2.6 Verification stating that the applicant has no criminal record issued from the county of his/her nationality or residence (the verification shall be valid for no more than 3 months).

At first I went to my local police station but they said that I had to go to the State Police in Baltimore to obtain a statement that I had no criminal record in Maryland. This took a couple of hours at the station, then about a week later the report arrived in the mail. The local police used to issue these reports but post-9/11 it changed to the State Police.

2.7 A medical certificate issued from the country where the application is submitted, showing no prohibitive diseases as indicatted in the Ministerial Regulation No. 14 (B.E. 2535) (the certificate shall be valid for no more than 3 months).

Download and print the form from the Embassy website, bring it to your doctor and ask your doctor to fill it out. It took about 30 minutes at my doctor's office.

Remember they want all the forms in triplicate, this means 6 2"x2" photos (copies of the forms are OK)

When I submitted all the forms to the Embassy, they said that I was the first person making application for the retirement visa who had all the required information the first time. :o I went back 2 days later and picked up my passport with the visa approved.

My experience at the Washington, DC embassy was very good, and I would recommend that you use them directly after you have gathered all the required information.

I hope this helps!

Dave
