Foreign Affairs Minister meets Gifu governor

BANGKOK, 27 May 2016 (NNT) - Governor of Japan's Gifu Prefecture Hajime Furuta has paid a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai during his visit to Thailand.

The Foreign Minister and the Japanese governor have agreed to promote trade, investment and tourism between Thailand and Gifu Prefecture. Mr. Furuta voiced his appreciation for the number of Thai tourists in Gifu Prefecture, which grew six fold over the past six years.

Mr. Don invited Gifu Prefecture to organize an activity marking the 130th friendship anniversary between Thailand and Japan in 2017 and consider mutually fostering small and medium enterprises.

The governor of Gifu Prefecture is scheduled to visit Thailand between May 25 and 28, during which time he is due to meet the Ministers of Agriculture and Cooperatives and Tourism and Sports, as well as lead PR activities for Gifu Prefecture Tourism at the Embassy of Japan.

130th friendship anniversary between Thailand and Japan

That of course includes the four years of forced military alliance with Japan after Japan invaded Thailand. But that alliance allowed Thailand to annex Burma, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. So no hard feelings towards the Japanese.
