Poland announces increase in military manpower

The Poles are beefing up their armed forces with the Defence Minister announcing he wants to form a 35,000 strong paramilitary force, and a regular army of 150,000 troops.

The move comes, says Warsaw, because of Russia’s behaviour in Ukraine, and its promise to form new military divisions along its western frontier with Europe. NATO is already deploying two extra US Marine brigades in the region in response to the Crimean annexation.

Russia has been making aggressive statements about the small Baltic states in recent months and military analysts admit that the NATO and EU members’ position is
indefensible should Moscow throw its armed forces at them in strength.

A bigger Polish army could provide a forward-deployed force that might slow any Russian advance long enough for NATO’s other resources to come into play.

Best course of action is deterent and that requires strength and showing it too, in a non threatening and defence posture, but put in place and advertised. A great pity it wasn't the case in Crimea.

What happened to the guy Britain accuses of the Palonium Litvinenko murder in London? He's been promoted to a politician in Russia and is rewarded.

Putin is a thug and they only respect and excersise power.

Euro News is the biggest garbage pile in the news business. This article is total BS concerning US deployments to the Baltic's. The US does not have any US Marine Brigades in Europe for this mission. The US Army has one (not two) Brigades for the mission and has two additional brigades in Europe.

And what happens when they elect left wing, wingnuts that have cut the average budget to 1.35% of GDP for NATO's European members?

Take the Germans for example, during the cold war they had 2,200 main battle tanks today they have less than 250 today. This example is status quo for Europe's dismal state of Defense preparedness across the board.

Europe is not a credible threat to Putin and his actions in Ukraine and Georgia show that he well knows this. This world is yet to be the nice friendly place the left wingers believe in, while they ply their socialist agendas.
