TCC predicts Euro 2016 to spur 70 billion baht in spending

BANGKOK, 10 June 2016 (NNT) – The Economic and Business Forecasting Center of the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce has forecast that the Euro 2016 football championship to start this evening will spur over 70 billion baht in spending in the Kingdom.

Center director Thanawat Polwichai said recent surveys on the business and social impacts of Euro 2016, conducted on 1,204 respondents across the country, have indicated that over 76 billion baht will likely be spent in direct response to the competition.

Most of the money will be spent on consumer goods by individuals enjoying the tournament, such as those purchasing televisions to view it or going to entertainment venues. However, up to 50 billion baht of the sum is expected to be spent on gambling.

Up to 60 percent of respondents admitted to concerns that gambling on the games would lead to criminal activity while also acknowledging that money could be lost in the form of eroded work hours and debt accumulation.

They called for serious state action against betting houses and more stringent punishment for gamblers.

That is a lot of money to spend on "copy" football shirts.....

I think the author doesn't understand what ''most'' means. Shouldn't have skipped that 'superlatives' class

A lot of the money spent on shirts will be after the final has been decided so the Thai fans can sport the one worn by the tournament winners.

Can't be associated with losers !
