Labor Ministry and Interior Ministry told to detect fake ID cards for migrant workers

BANGKOK, 14 June 2016 (NNT) – Employment Department Director General Arak Prommanee said Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan had instructed the authorities to take measures to detect fake ID cards for migrant workers.

Gen Prawit had instructed the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of the Interior to take measures to inspect and detect if any pink cards or work permits for migrant may have been forged.

The deputy premier suggested that the pink cards and work permits be made to have a modern style and can be easily inspected, the department head said.

He said he believed that if the measures were clearly determined, the authorities would effectually inspect and prevent fake cards for the migrant workers to assure that they work legally in Thailand.

Foreign workers to be checked for legal compliance

BANGKOK, 14 June 2016 (NNT) – Authorities are preparing to run an inspection on foreign workers with pink cards in a bid to ensure their compliance with the law while a new type of permit will soon be issued to facilitate the workers’ examination process.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan presided over a meeting of the Committee on Foreign Worker and Human Trafficking Resolution Policies, during which relevant agencies were instructed to stringently check all foreign workers who were previously given pink cards so as to make sure they are not engaged in illegal jobs or working in unpermitted fields.

On this occasion, the attendants were informed of the Labor Ministry’s plan to put into use a new version of work permit that contains all important information about the holder, including the employer’s name, the type of work and places permitted for employment. The plan is set to be considered by the Cabinet soon and, once implemented, is expected to establish better management of foreign workers in Thailand.

Moreover, with an aim to speed up their registration process, foreign workers will be allowed to register immediately after receiving health examinations without having to wait for the results. However, should the results point to dangerous diseases, their work permit could be terminated.

The meeting also agreed to set up assistance centers for foreign workers in border areas as a way of facilitating their journey in and out of the country.

All this was set up not long after the junta took over and has been revised on a number of occasions since its inception.

So either the registration scheme is an incompetent mess or someone needs a reason for more budget to play with.

Or, more likely, both.

or give immigrantion/police officers a computer tablet each and they can check details online concerning an ID number. maybe confiscate the ones given to the school kids. laugh.png

at least someone can make some bucks out of selling more useless tablets. i only want 0.1% commission for coming up with the idea. thumbsup.gif

if ID cards and work permits have been forged

it would be interesting to find out which policemen who

did the forging and how much money they got from this
