webfact
Ancient temple hall discovered in PhitsanulokPHITSANULOK, 16 June 2016 (NNT) - A religious hall was found inside Wat Nam Pad temple in Phitsanulok province. The Department of Fine Arts has been contacted by the temple to carry out its restoration and reinforce the hall's structure, as it was built without support beams. The ancient hall, which is located in Neon Maprang district, was found in poor condition. For the time being, Wat Nam Pad temple has covered the hall with a makeshift roof to protect it from the heat and rain, while using metal rods to prop up the structure.Wat Nam Pad abbot Phra Ahikarn Somchai said the religious structure was made with only one entrance and is believed to be a hundred years old. Murals portraying Buddhist beliefs and depicting historical events can be seen around the hall. The abbot said it was built using the traditional techniques of local residents. Neither wooden nor metal beams were used in its construction. The abbot has sought the advice and cooperation of the Department of Fine Arts to ensure the ancient hall is made structurally sound and serves an educational purpose for future generations.-- NNT 2016-06-

Kasset Tak
In Thailand people are amazed over buildings that are not even a hundred years old. My mothers house is about 200 years old, built around 1810-1815... in Thailand that would be enough to become a museum! Concrete building in Thailand = maximum 50 yearsConcrete building in Europe = 2,000 years (Pantheon) Edited June 16, 2016 by Kasset Tak

cruisemonkey
For those thinking of buying a condo - being 100 years old and considered 'ancient' tells you something about Thai construction standards.
