BANGKOK: -- Eagle eyed Suvarnabhumi immigration officers arrested a Taiwanese man with a fake passport - then found out he was wanted for drugs and weapons offences in his home country.

Yu Cheng Yu, 36, faces deportation from Thailand after his arrest on Friday, reported Thairath.

He had entered Thailand through the land border at Padang Besar and was using a Guatemalan passport claiming he was in the rubber business.

Yu was seen acting suspiciously near the China Airlines check-in. Immigration found him in possession of both a Guatemalan and a Taiwanese passport. He had entered on the Guatemalan one on June 22nd and officials went to check it using detection machines. It was found to have inkjet printing and be fake. The Taiwanese passport was genuine, however.

Yu said that he was involved in the rubber business between Malaysia, Thailand and Guatemala and was on his way to the Netherlands before going to Central America. Immigration did not buy his story and contacted the Taiwanese embassy who told them he was wanted on drugs and weapons charges dating back to 2013.

He was charged with using a fake passport and detained pending contact with Taiwanese authorities and deportation.

What does acting suspiciously near a check-in counter actually mean? Just so I can avoid it myself.

Looking at your passport and shaking your head.

Sweating profusely at the thought of a Thai Jail, oh and trying to pretend there's nothing illegal in your bags.

what is a "detection machine " does it come with a Deerstalker hat and magnifying glass ?

Since he is from Taiwan he is not "real chinese" so he had no chance of getting in here with the "brothers"..

I'm amazed they aren't deporting him to the mother country China.

Probably because the Taiwanese community have a bigger investment in Thailand, hence Thailand is on better terms with Taiwan. What people don't know aside from the big corporations like Toyota, Samsung, LG... one of the largest investors in Thailand are the Taiwanese with their small and medium size manufacturing businesses.
