Electricity poles, radio antennas and trees throughout Phnom Penh were damaged in a storm that caused minor injuries to two people after a billboard fell on them yesterday. Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) reported that power in the Sen Sok and Por Senchey districts was affected after the afternoon rainstorm felled six medium-voltage poles there.

“Five villages in Sen Sok district and four villages in Por Senchey district had no electricity, but our technical working group will try their best to restore power by putting new poles up and connecting the electricity to customers to use as soon as possible,” the EDC report said. Pa Socheatvong, Phnom Penh’s governor, posted on his Facebook page that the heavy rain and wind had caused 10 trees, a billboard and radio antennas to fall.

“The Public Works and Transportation Department cooperated with district authorities to take the trees off the roads,” Mr. Socheatvong wrote, adding that the storms resulted in little flooding throughout the capital. The billboard fell onto two motorcycle riders, both of whom were sent to hospital with minor injuries.
