I have an O-A retirement visa with multiple entry. I got my one year visa on March 14, 2006 and left LOS for two weeks, returned and got my present stamp that is good till July 7, 2007.

[ I know I have to get my second 90-day address reporting stamp January 1 ]

My question is, I will be leaving again for two weeks in April. When I return, I assume I will get a one year stamp again, with a new date of April xx 2008. Is this correct? Does this mean I will not have to show my 800,000 baht [three month’s prior] to April xx 2008 for renewal of my one year visa? I know this has been addressed before but I want to be absolutely certain I understand correctly, as mistakes are not a good thing here in the land of happiness

thanks in advance,

Jimmy

Wrong. Your visa must be valid to obtain a one year stay. Your visa was issued in March 14, 2006 so will expire in March 13, 2007. Prior to March 13th you could make a trip and return to obtain a new one year stay but not in April. You will also require a re entry permit to return and keep your current stay alive after March 13th.

lopburi: A friend of mine got an O-A visa (with multiple re-entry) last month at the Thai consulate in Chicago. For convenience, let's say it was on October 15, 2006.

(1) Do you mean that every time he re-enters Thaliand before October 14, 2007 that he gets an new one-year period from that date?

Let's say he entered Thailand on October 20, 2006 to activate the visa. They stamped him for one year until October 19, 2007.

(2) If he leaves Thailand and re-enters on May 1, 2007, is he stamped for a new one-year period until April 30, 2008?

(3) If he leaves Thailand and re-enters on October 13, 2007, is he stamped for a new one-year period until October 12, 2008?

Interesting. Then that's an additional benefit of getting the O-A overseas vs getting an extension in Thailand.

If I entered Thailand on October 20, 2006 with my friend on [something other than an O-A] and then went to an immigrations office in Thailand to extend for purpose of retirement, regardless how many times I come and go on a re-entry permit, I need to re-apply for a new extension by October 19, 2007, whereas my friend theoretically could stay another 364 days after that (if he had re-entered Thailand on October 19, 2007). He could therefore keep his retirement funds offshore for (almost) two years.

Slowly but surely I'm getting this down pat.

It happened to me, I left twice during my 1 year and returned the second time 10 days before my 1 year was up both times I was stamped Non O-A from entry date until 1 year hence so I am now good til Oct 8 2007
