Frozen NZ fish fillets now available in CM

Rimping are now stocking Kai-branded NZ fish in vacuum sealed individual and multi portion bags. That is to say, you can buy a pack of say, Hoki, and remove just one of 3 fillets, for defrosting.

The had Hake, Orange Roughy, Hoki and other varieties all in good condition, not frost-bitten like some product in store :(

All are imported by Kai of Bangkok who also supplies PassionBox.

I'll not quote price as they differ by pack weight and variety however, it's cheaper than what you'd pay in NZ :)

Comparison guide.

And there is an abundant supply of Vietnamese Basa fillets in the supermarkets over here in NZ.

Converted prices 277 THB per kilo for Basa.

Hoki is at 498 THB per kilo.

Two Lamb Shanks from a supermarket here are between 360 - 500 THB being priced by weight.

Hope it is cheaper than KIWI or AUSSIE Lamb and/or Beef at Rimping and other places.

About AUD$15 at Rimping for two Lamb Shanks.

Never buy NZ lamb shanks at Rimping, way too expensive. Makro have packs of 3 at approx 1kg from 270 THB. Cheaper than NZ supermarket specials.

@Paul Catton - Vn basa/dory/catfish/pangasius shouldn't be compared with ocean caught Hoki. Sad to see it sold in NZ alongside Norwegian salmon when quality local product is readily available.

^ Rob, best lamb value chops in town? - I usually get the Makro rack.

Yes, fresh cryovac or frozen from Makro seem best value. Need a bone saw or heavy cleaver to 'chop' them and my wife loves frenched cutlets on the bbq.

Agree, no comparison.

NZ (supposedly sometimes described as the land of milk and honey, with a vast sea and ocean between our nearest neighbours) and their fishmongers would appear to pay the global rate for their slice of the commercial catch which many here would find unaffordable for their protein in daily life. Hence the rise in cheap Basa fillet imports and welcomed if fish was a significant part of your diet. That's the way of the world these days.

Lamb is a similar commodity here, normally priced way beyond what people expectfor a country that is noted for production, and again priced at global rate making it unaffordable for a regular source of protein unless you buy cuts that are deemed to be inferior eg. flaps, neck chops etc.

Beef has fluctuations but great savingsPork and Chicken

Apology for grammar and spacing errors, inadvertently posted (edit had timed out) using unfamiliar little phoney device.
