Drug traffickers apprehended in Bang Lamung in hot pursuit chase



PATTAYA: -- Two drug traffickers were arrested and more than 600 meths were seized in yesterday's hot pursuit in Bang Lamung district of Chonburi that ended with one officer injured and five cars damaged.

District officers chasing the vehicle of one trafficker have to blow out its four tyres with gunshots before they could apprehend her.

The two traffickers were identified later as Mrs Chanpen Chupachon, 63, and Ms Nucharee or “M” Noo-iam, 28.

Sattahip district officials led by acting chief officer Maj Chatchai Sripo-on plotted to arrest the trafficking gang following a tipoff that a house at Tambon Huay Yai in Bang Lamung was frequented by youths looking for meths.

The place was surrounded and raided.

Chanpen was arrested after thorough search in the house found over a hundred of meths inside plastic boxes.

She admitted of buying the drugs from M at 200 baht per pill.

The officers then told Chanpen to contact M for delivery of meths to her.

M came in a van with about 600 meths. But she sped off in the van after noticing suspicious movement at the place with two vehicles blocking the road, and another at the rear.

A chase and run along a three kilometres distance ended with the authorities blowing out four tyres of her van with gunshots after she rammed it at the two vehicles trying to block her escape.

Two other passing cars were also damaged when she rammed her van at them to try to escape.

She abandoned her van and hid in a bush after running out of her vehicle before the officials would arrive and apprehend her.

Captured from her van included 200 meths, and subsequent search at her home in Nong Prue produced another 400 meths.

Both were later detained at Huay Yai police station pending more investigation by narcotic suppression police.
