"...it would time some time before Nen Kham would be extradited..."

Probably about as long as Captain Lawrence Oates was away from the rest of the doomed Scott Polar Expedition when (on 17 March 2012), he said "I am just going outside and may be some time".

What a contrast between Chattiko and Oates!

attachicon.gifoates.jpg

Oates walked from his tent into a blizzard (and to his death) as an act of self-sacrifice, rather than compromise the chances of survival of his three companions (http://www.gilbertwhiteshouse.org.uk/captain-lawrence-oates/).

Chattiko, on the other hand, is one of a growing ranks of monks in Thailand who bring shame to the Buddhist-faith!

The comparison with Oates notwithstanding, your date is adrift - by some 100 years.

Long, long overdue clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

But: "However, the DSI chief noted that, in the extradition process, charges would have to be lodged against Nen Kham first by the US court for his acknowledgement after which the ex-monk had the right to defend himself against the charges."

Thank you for outlining the rationals for the delays in the process. These are accepted readily by all, except when the country concerned is Thailand, then process and results have to be instantly provided to all, especially tv members.

shame the police/dsi dont have the same set of ethics in Thailand as the other countries that are arresting these frauds and arrest all the so called monks/abbots here that are wanted by them, seems that the only ones being arrested are those outside Thailand where the thai authorities do not have to do the dirty work themselves. Maybe eventually the ones refusing to attend the hearings etc or where the thai dsi/police are too scared to actually go after them will finally be caught when/if they go overseas.....

Oh,...you are so right in this,.....!

Once back to Thailand he will apologize, or send his family to do it, donate some money, and all will be forgiven after a short media circus.

Nah,...not this one and not this time,...he will be made a example !!! the dirty work (catching him ) has been done abroad by foreign police forces...the easy work is for the Thai Authority's....

Just look at the corrupt, dirty, Monk cases in Thailand they can not handle !!! those monks make a mockery of Thai Justice ......

Best regards.

This is more an open question than a relevant comment to this case but can anyone who is involved in Buddhism here tell me what good temples do? What they actually give back to the people besides "faith". As little as I know about Buddha he was a man that preached against organized religion. What do monks do besides beg? What do temples offer besides merit? I know that many watts have schools in them but one has little to do with the other. This is a genuine question so if all you have to offer are insults and insinuation save it.

Slowly slowly the wheels are turning, many more to go but a good start.

What... One extradition in eight years....

Yep... Better step back, there's a mighty Avalanche building.

As ever- the fabulous TV members pour scorn on Thai authorities who are at last trying to do something about corruption.

The endless comments about brown envelopes are becoming very tedious .

Of course 90% of TV members don't actually live here- they just pontificate from Kansas or wherever .

For those of us who actually live here- we notice things are changing - slowly I admit- but for the good .

It's going to be very tricky to face up to the fact that temples are often money making machines ( as outsiders we can easily see that) - hopefully Thailand will return to its spiritual values

'Looks like a real sweetheart. Humility just written all over his face. 'Nice shades.

Is it an offence if I put on my superman uniform and claim I can leap tall buildings?

Is it offence to stand in front of TV cameras, spout crap and pretend to be a Prime Minister?

Take care in what you say. coffee1.gif

He is the Prime Minister even though how he arrived there may not be in accordance with western (or your) ideals.

Have they taken his assets from him yet? I understand he had some 200 luxury cars, thousands of rai of land and of course the LV suitcase. You just know he'll never see the inside of a Thai jail cell.

can you imagine him arriving at swampy FIRST CLASS,fast tracked through immigration and customs, then a limo.waiting for him with a police escort, where too SIR.

The U.S. courts are much like Thai courts, money talks. If he is as rich as has been reported in the past, he can hire a legal team that will keep his case(s) in the U.S. tied up for a very long time; and, possibly even fight extradition.

Surely they have frozen his accounts here, but os maybe a bit harder.Withdrawing from them may show where the money laundering has been going.

It is a world wide phenomenon apparently, very popular in the west.

Hope he'll get some well hung cell mates who will show him some "compassion" during his stay at Bkk Hilton.

Ahh,the old homophobic Bangkok jail reply rears it's ugly head again. The wanting of men to be raped in jail by some members is truly weird.

Yes,it is very hard to bring this subject up with Thai friends. They know, but very hard to accept when you have been brainwashed since birth.

What is the definition of super human powers ?

I understand this Thailand is a country that believes in Ghost and witchcraft, well most Thais anyway, is there a translated LAW link explaining the law he has broken.

Is there any Thai law regarding claiming to be a Navy Seal as well ?

Drug addiction and claiming to have super human powers are chargeable offenses?

Do Thai jamokes actually expect U.S. courts to prosecute on such charges?

I think Prayud should build a special prison for miscreant monks to preach non-attachment. No phones, sound systems, TV or internet,

Simply 2 vegetarian meals a day with dhamma teaching combined with mindful meditative practices, ie washing dishes and scrubbing floors.

It could have a huge guardforce if they used all the cops currently in 'inactive' posts as staff. there we go- two problems solved at once.
