Hello!

What needs to be done to get a work permit / business visa for a Brit with a 1 year non-immigrant tourist visa?

Do you need to get a completely new visa all over again, or is there an add on possible?

If you intend to start your own company, what comes first, the company or the business visa?

Does somebody know a good step by step guide on what to do to set up a company?

If its a tourist visa. It needs to be changed to a non immigrant "O" or "B" visa.

The company

Does somebody know a good step by step guide on what to do to set up a company?

In order to set up a limited company in Thailand, the following procedures should be followed:

1/ Reservation of your Corporate Name

The name to be reserved must not be the same or similar to the name of any other companies. There are names that are not allowed and the name reservation guidelines of the Commercial Registration Department in the Ministry of Commerce need to be observed. The approved corporate name is valid for 30 days. No extension is allowed.

2/ File a Memorandum of Association

A Memorandum of Association must be filed with the Commercial Registration Department. This has to include the name of the company that has been successfully reserved, its business objectives, the capital to be registered, the province where the company will be located, and the names of the seven promoters. The capital information must include the number of shares and the value per share. At the time of formation, the authorized capital, although partly paid, must all be issued.

3/ Convene a Statutory Meeting

Once the share structure has been decided, a statutory meeting needs to be called, during which the bylaws and articles of incorporation are approved, the Board of Directors are nominated and an auditor selected.

4/ Registration

Within three months of the date of the Statutory Meeting, the directors must submit their application to establish the company.

5/ Tax Registration

Within 60 days of incorporation, or within 60 days of the start of operations, businesses liable for income tax must obtain a tax identity card and a number for the company from the Revenue Department. Business operators earning more than 1,200,000 baht per annum must register for VAT within 30 days of the date they reach that figure in sales or before they apply for a work permit.

I suspect you have a multi entry non immigrant O visa valid for one year which is not a tourist visa; as tourist visas are not valid for one year or called non immigrant.

Thought so as well Lopburi, before However I just saw a visa the other day which stated Tourist and it was multi entry for the year. Don't think it was called non immigrant. First time I ever saw a one year tourist visa.

Interesting. Did it say four entry or multi? Have heard of four entry and some Consulates providing one your (3 months each entry) rather than the six months.

It was multiple. Just saw this visa less than 72 hours ago.

thank you for your interest, everybody.

The visa in question says non immigrant o, it also has employment prohibited on it. That it is a nonimmigrant o must be a good thing, i think.

I am very grateful for your guidance.

To do this visa conversion, and put down the capital required to follow through with the conversion, how much cash is needed in my pocket?

You don't need to change anything with this visa. It works to obtain the work permit( even if it is stamped "employment prohibited"

The extension of stay based on business is impossible for a start up company, so you can not extend at this time after you get the work permit.
