rooster59 Posted July 29, 2016 Share Posted July 29, 2016 All passenger vans are told to leave Victory Monument by Oct 25 BANGKOK: All passenger vans operating from the Victory Monument will be relocated to three bus terminals – Mor Chit, Ekamai and Sai Tai Boromratchachonni – by October 25. The new order to regulate the operations of the passenger vans was agreed upon at a meeting today (Friday) at the headquarter of the 2nd cavalry division led by Colonel Suvit Katesri, deputy commander of the division and chairman of the committee to regulate passenger vans. Also attending the meeting were representatives from Transport Company, Land Transport Department, Bangkok Mass Transit Authority and operators of the vans.It was agreed that passenger vans would continue to operate in their existing routes but from three separate bus terminals instead of from Victory Monument and its surrounding areas.Passengers using the services of the vans will be notified of the relocation plan through a publicity campaign to be launched in August and September. To facilitate their travel to the three terminals, there will be free shuttle bus services at Victory Monument.But not all van operators agreed with the new arrangement. Mr Hassachai Sainamkhieu who has 20 vans operating from Victory Monument to Pran Buri said that the relocation would impact on the passengers. He suggested that the authorities should ask the people how they feel about the relocation.Another operator, Mrs Tunya Amporn, who operates the Victory-Rayong route, said that the operators would be relocated again in the next two years because the Morchit and Ekamai terminals will be moved to new locations. The fact that they are operating at V.M would suggest there is demand.. and,well it is a transport hub, so whats the problem with the vans? Mochit is a nightmare to get in and out of, the pickup space is overcrowded already. Ekkamai is another nightmare due to where its positioned. Hard to see what the motivation is here. Whenever a date is involved in Thailand, to me it seems that the chance of something happening on or by that date is very uncommon. Just look at all these trials that never end. After this change (if it happens), I will drive my car instead, and if the other fifteen passengers on the van yesterday do likewise, there will be one van less and sixteen cars more in the city centre. I suspect many people will be inconvenienced. Wherever the vans operate from there will be a demand, the Victory Monument location hasn't created the demand. What makes it a "transport hub", a BTS station and bus stops, just like Mochit and Ekkamai? The problem is the dangerous road conditions and congestion that the vans cause. The passengers that currently have to travel from around the Ekkamai and Mochit areas to Victory Monument to get a van won't find it a nuisance, they'll be delighted. This is nothing to do with the Thai legal system but as you raised the issue it would be interesting to know which trials are you referring to? But for people who wish to go north, Mochit is not that easy to reach as victory. Because at Mochit BTS Station it is still a walk till Mochit Bus station. Before at Victory you can walk from BTS to the vans. But at Mochit it is too far to walk for almost every Thai. I walked it already myself and it is not only a 10 minutes walk.
