BMA and ONCB to urgently solve narcotics problem

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is cooperating with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) in urgently solving narcotics problem in the capital. Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin admits that narcotics are spreading in many areas, and urges relevant departments to join hands since he could not suppress them by himself.

Following the meeting with ONCB Secretary-General Kitti Limchaikit on solutions to end the spread of narcotics, Mr. Apirak said the meeting has a resolution to expand the rehabilitation centers. For instance, Ban Pichit Jai (บ้านพิชิตใจ) Center will be able to support 400 drug addicts instead of only 100 patients.

However, the number is insufficient as 10,000 drug addicts are still waiting to be treated. Therefore, the BMA officials will consult with the ONCB in order to ask for cooperation from nearby provinces. The objective is to help youths realise the dangers of narcotics.

The Bangkok Governor concedes the areas in the capital are facing narcotics and drug-trafficking problems. The BMA officials have a plan to hold a meeting to set the target for next year in order to seriously curb narcotics.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kitti said 46 communities are involved with the spread of illicit drugs, and there are several drug-trafficking locations that need much attention from policemen at this moment.
