BANGKOK: -- Much like the UK did a few weeks ago, the US has issued a warning today on their Thailand embassy website informing citizens living in or traveling to Thailand about the Aug. 7 referendum vote and telling them to exercise caution.

The warning tells Americans to avoid crowds and demonstration areas.

They say, “The National Council for Peace and Order has banned political gatherings and placed restrictions on the media, freedom of speech, and freedom of assembly. Security forces have additional powers, including the right to control movement and search for weapons.

German foreign ministry also urges caution, avoid crowds/gatherings etc.

There's always that "Fabulous" American export they can enjoy.....rhymes with Poke or Joke!

What are they worried about?

I thought political gatherings and demonstrations were banned.

Are they really expecting trouble?

A little over the top with the warning as this is just common sense and I think it will blow over with hardly any bother at all.

Stick to the topic and abide by forum rules.

ban on alcohol may not be helpful as those who really need alcohol would have stockpiled, or had their friends do it for them.

I think every country knows what this junta is like and issued warnings including Australia last week.

The amount of times I make silly jokes only to get serious replies is astounding.

US should also  warn it's citizens about travelling in the US while  their at it.
