I have a Compaq Pressario.. for some reason the computer crashed when I was burning a CD and the cd-rom drive doesn't work anymore. i.e. when I push eject no response, when I manually eject it will not read any cd-roms etc.

I assume it overheated. I was thinking it might be a software problem because it only happened when I installed a new version of Nero. But I've tried every solution - downloading new drivers etc.

Can anyone recommend someone in Pantip that could test it for me or install a new drive etc? I realise most places could do this, but I'd prefer a recommendation.

If this is desk top model installing a new drive will be very easy.

I would suggest you upgrade to a DVD drive when it is done.

For a notebook you will need to contact the HP support office.

Hmm.. it is a notebook.. if that's the case I might consider an external drive.

That will probably be the economic choice.

Before scrapping the drive, here's something worth trying:

1) (Maybe optional). Take out the battery for a couple of minutes (as to reset to defaults, whatever might be reset by this means).

2) Take out the drive and start up the laptop - let Windows have the time it needs to adjust to the new situation.

3) Turn off the laptop. Put back the drive and restart.

I had a similiar problem about 1/2 year ago. The drive has worked perfectly ever after.
