DDPM instructs personnel in nine provinces to brace for heavy rains

BANGKOK, 9 August 2016 (NNT) – The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has instructed its personnel in nine eastern and southern provinces to prepare for heavy rains, floods and landslides.

DDPM Director-General Chatchai Promlert has revealed that the nine southern and eastern provinces are expected to experience heavy rains from August 8-13.

The provinces at risk include Chonburi, Rayong, Chantaburi and Trat in eastern Thailand and Ranong, Pang-nga, Phuket, Krabi and Trang in southern Thailand.

All risk provinces have been prepared for flashfloods and landslides due to the heavy rains, monitor the situation around the clock and ensure that their equipment is ready to cope with emergency situations. Officials have been instructed to rescue and help any victims swiftly.

He called on villagers in those provinces to closely follow weather forecasts and warnings as well as watch out for unusual changes in nature, so that they could be evacuated in time. Sailors and fishing boats are suggested to increase caution in navigating and small boats are strongly advised to stay ashore.

The affected public can request for assistance by calling Hotline 1784 around the clock.
