PM thanks authorities, public for tightening security measures following southern bombings

Tanakorn Sangiam

BANGKOK, 13 August 2016 (NNT) – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has thanked members of the public for helping the authorities with surveillance and security affairs following Friday's bombings and blazes in the southern region of the country.

Government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the premier has followed the situation closely and thanked the authorities for their tightened security measures in southern areas.

The premier was quoted as advising all government agencies take public safety and the nation’s peace and order as top priorities and expressed the confidence that they will regain control of the situation which, he said, will return to normal shortly.

“The incidents were virtually a test to the extent that once again good nations will prevail over all malicious acts,” the premier said.

The government spokesman commented that excessive and repeated news coverages of the incidents in the media might probably spread panic among members of society and urged the media to do the coverages with balance.
