August 14, 20169 yr There's some Thai language reports about a bomb being found in Bang Kapi - next to a road. Photos show a mobile phone detonator similar to the ones in Hua Hin. But not seen anything in the press? Anyone else heard anything?
August 14, 20169 yr I came back from The Mall Bangkapi 2 hours ago and didn't notice anything. Usually there would be military present near the mall as a security measure.
August 14, 20169 yr Author http://www.nationtv.tv/main/content/crime/378512936/ http://www.innnews.co.th/shownews/show?newscode=721296 http://m.posttoday.com/crime/448530 Looks like something was found by men working on the road? Not sure if it's related to current issues or something older? No English language press coverage though. Edited August 14, 20169 yr by Familyonthemove
August 14, 20169 yr well here in Surat Thani the local news was there was a bomb found at Khuntale(lake), also that 4 units were torched opposite the catholic school but again we are not seeing it in any of the news pieces, maybe they are trying to keep some of what happened out of the press so as not to flame the situation or scare anyone, no idea.

Re Bangkapi, I learned about it today Tuesday at lunch from my kao man kai cook. The police found an unexploded "bomb" at Lam sa Lee - the roundabout at Ramkhamhaeng leading up to DeMall Bangkapi. I can't remember she said which day. And yes, I did find a heavy police presence along the street this morning. Many motocyclists were stopped/ticketed. And the security guard at Makro scanned my backpack when I walked thru the store entrance this afternoon. I also did not find any mention of it in the farang media, maybe because this part of town seems beyond their jurisdiction? Whichever media is at work, I think they're doing their best in their effort to "calm down" the current instability, beginning with World Tourism Day and what not.
August 17, 20169 yr It has been reported as a old/dud grenade found in drainage muck - which could have been discarded by a street gang or mob from years ago from my reading.
