The litany of defamation suits filed against opposition leader Sam Rainsy seems to have had little effect on his willingness to openly take shots at Prime Minister Hun Sen, with the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) president’s comments on Tuesday proving so in spades. Mr. Rainsy, seen speaking to a crowd in Spartanburg, South Carolina in the US on Tuesday, called the premier a coward and likened him to a boxer fighting in an empty ring.
 

He mocked the prime minister and told supporters that Mr. Hun Sen was afraid to compete with him in a truly free and fair election. Mr. Rainsy, who has been living in Paris in self-imposed exile since last November, said Mr. Hun Sen does not want him in the country during the election because he would lose.
 

“Mr. Hun Sen is a coward. He is a boxer who dares not to fight against his opponent. He does not allow me to stand in the ring, and he only wants to fight against the air and claim he is the winner,” Mr. Rainsy said. “Do not think he was elected prime minister with no opponent. His opponent is Sam Rainsy. If you ordered police, soldiers and the court to threaten Rainsy, let’s fight in the ring and show the people.”
