Workers Faint, Injured in Crash

Featured Replies

Garment factory workers across the Kingdom had a rough weekend, with six suffering injuries from a truck accident on Saturday and 43 fainting in two different factories on Friday. The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) reported that 26 workers at the You Li International factory in Svay Rieng province’s Bavet town fainted at 8am on Friday due to chemicals in the clothes they were working on.

“The workers fainted because they were poisoned by the bad smell of clothes, which made it difficult for them to breathe, made them weak and made them faint continuously while they worked,” the NSSF report said. Staff members of the Chiphou district referral hospital in Svay Rieng province said the workers brought there had all been released once they recovered.

Another 17 employees of the New Sky Printing factory in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district fainted because of smoke inhalation from a fire at a nearby factory on Friday. Workers at another factory were burning tires as they protested and smoke from the fires seeped into the New Sky Printing factory.
