snoop1130
20 stolen cars returned to Malaysian authorities The Nation Thai police Tuesday returned 20 cars, which were stolen and smuggled into Thailand, to Malaysian authorities. Pol General Wut Liptapanlop presented the seized cars to Malaysian Central Investigation Bureau chief DCP Mohmad Bin Salleh and Ambassador of Malaysia to Thailand Nazirah Hussain during a ceremony at the Royal Thai Police head office in Bangkok. Wut said the Thai government placed much importance on the crackdown on bilateral cooperation with Malaysia to fight transnational car-thieves. Last year, Thai police returned 75 stolen cars to Malaysia, he said. The Malaysian CIB chief said around 16,000 cars and motorcycles were stolen each year in Malaysia - and about a third were reportedly smuggled into Thailand. The rest went to other destinations such as Dubai, Indonesia and Singapore, where they can be resold at much cheaper prices than legal imports. He urged buyers to beware of unusually cheap vehicles, as they might be stolen. Brer Fox
The last time stolen cars were returned to Malaysia the respective police forces (and there was a cast of hundreds) had a slap-up soire at some Thai beach resort which lasted a couple of days and probably cost more than the cars were worth. Upnotover
5,000+ smuggled in, 20 returned. I am not convinced this deserves a mention let alone a ceremony.
jamesbrock
Like the onions and garlic, no mention of how they were smuggled, or, indeed, whether they were actually "smuggled" or simply driven across in plain sight while the checkpoint cops slid huge wads of cash into their pockets...
