Malaysian PM pays official visit to Thailand to discuss bilateral issues

 

BANGKOK, 9 September 2016 (NNT) – Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak paid an official visit to Thailand as guest of the government to discuss bilateral issues and witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the Thai-Malaysian Rubber Industrial Estate Project on 9 September, 2016. 

The Malaysian premier proceeded to Bangkok following an ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, Laos. His official visit to Thailand aimed to strengthen relationships between Thailand and Malaysia and to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. 

The welcoming ceremony will be officially held on 9 September at Government House and be followed by the sixth annual consultation between the prime ministers of the two countries. 

Mr. Razak and his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-o-cha will witness the signing ceremony for the MoU on the Rubber Industrial Estate Project or Rubber City in Songkhla province and the Kota Putra Rubber Industrial Estate Project.

Thailand, Malaysia plan border wall to halt illegal flow of goods, people

 

BANGKOK: -- Thailand and Malaysia will discuss plans to build a wall along their shared border, Thai officials said on Thursday, a day before Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak is set to meet his counterpart in Bangkok.

 

People-trafficking and the smuggling of drugs and weapons are among the transnational crimes that have flourished along the 640-km (398-mile) Thai-Malay border, until a crackdown by Thailand last year disrupted regional trafficking routes.

 

Najib is to meet Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha on an official visit that will focus on security cooperation and investment.

doesn't matter how big the wall is, if your security forces are corrupt they will still happily deal in drugs, slaves etc. All it will do is make it difficult for people to avoid the payoffs by sneaking across.

It's probably more to do with terrorism but nobody will mention the T word

Walls do not work, where I come from Hadrian tried it years ago.

And depending on your point of view, we got out or they got in.

They will probably compare notes on Najib's colonial era Sedition Act and Prayut's draconian Article 44. They will check with each other how effective in silencing, harass and locking up critics.
