Connect 2 Ethernet Cables

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm looking for a cheap thingy that will just connect 2 ethernet cables. Similar to what they have for connecting two telephone lines, to make a longer line out of 2 short ones.

I've never seen one and I'm wondering if they even exist, before I go searching around.

Thx.

They definately exist, but in my experience they can give you lot's of trouble with flaky connections especially on longer cables (>50m).

Normally you join cables with specially designed joining blocks, where you push the cable into small knives with a special tool. Guaranteed connection!

Cables are cheap, buy a longer cable?

I agree, just buy one the length you need. The problem is that at the frequencies ethernet works at any discontinuities in the cable (splice for example) will cause reflections and signal will deteriorate. An alternative is a small electronic hub 4 or 5 port for about 800 baht.

Yep they exist , you'll find them in the ground floor spare part type stores at Pantip.

Fine for sort cable runs, if you're going longer than about 50m you might have some problems with them.
