How to: W7 on Gigabyte H170 Main Board

I have a nice new box with some pretty nice bells and whistles that I am having difficulty setting up W7 64 bit.  Problem apparently is that I don't have the drivers (or correct drivers). I did download some from Gigabytes' site, but my box doesn't see the thumb drive they are on.

 

I could use W10 but after trying it on my old machine I really don't like it. And I sure as heck don't want to pay Bt 6,000 for a system I don't like. 

 

I also want to run a dual boot with Linux (Zorin or ?).

 

Mostly I email, surf and play a few oldish games -- yep, I'm old -- RR Tycoon2, Civ 2,3,4,5 - etc.

 

Would I be better off installing Linux the adding a dual boot and fight another skirmish?

It's clear that the Drivers are on the Gigabyte website.

 

USB is recognized as it is listed in the "Boot Menu".

 

Yes it's clear that about 40 links are on that GB page.

Choose Driver and then the OS, you'll have twelve from which to choose.

 

Have you actually installed Windows 7 yet or have you yet to create the bootable USB drive with the USB Drivers, as instructed?

On that page, visited 20 seconds ago, I don't see any links, just:

 

Most hardware/software vendors may no longer offer drivers to support Win9X/ME/2000/XP SP1/SP2. If drivers are available from the vendors, we will update them on the GIGABYTE website.

I have W7 installed on my older box. Couldn't get the USB to take the formatting.

You appear to be more than confused. Linking to the wrong board, stating; H170-D3HP, but linking to GA-Z170X-Gaming G1.

Then writing about App Centre etc.

 

Let's go back to the beginning: If you haven't yet installed Windows 7, you need to follow the instructions here:

2) A USB drive with over 4GB of storage

Once you download the Windows Image Tool from GIGABYTE the process is fairly easy. Here's the process you need to follow step-by-step:

1) Open the tool from GIGABYTE. There's no need to install it.
2) In the source option select your disc drive
3) In the destination path pick your USB drive.
4) Make sure the 'add USB drivers' option is selected
5) Click start and wait for the process to finish.

I have absolutely no idea as to what you are going on about. Why on earth are you now referring to another PC?

 

Try to FOCUS.

 

Have you installed Windows 7 to the new PC or not?  If not, you'll need to follow the instructions above to do so.

 

Do you actually have a genuine Windows 7 image with product key to install?

 

 

If not, we can install a genuine Gigabyte Windows 7 signature to the Motherboard, but I'm concerned that you'll fumble that somewhat.

 

Anyway, this http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Utility/mb_utility_windowsimagetool.zip  is the utility you need to create the bootable USB Flash drive media to install to the new Motherboard. Choose to add the USB Drivers.

You seriously don't have a clue.

If you could see what you are posting from my point of view, you would understand. So try to swallow your pride and actually learn something.

 

Allow me to clarify.

 

1. You began the thread mentioning a H-170 motherboard, when there are fourteen from which to choose.

2. In reply to my question as to which, you produced a link to GA-Z170X-Gaming G1  motherboard, but you wrote underneath H170-D3HP.  Not confusing at all.

3. So then in post 8, I produce a link to the H170-D3HP Motherboard  with instructions to Choose Driver and then the OS, if you were looking for Drivers. If you were looking for Windows USB Installation Tool then it would be Utility and then the OS. But you didn't do that at all. You just read what was on the page before even selecting anything.

4. In reply to Thaidown, you wrote;   Which link on that page?  Also, what is this Please install APP Center first before install this utility.? when his instruction clearly led to a Windows Installation Tool.

5. In my question to you as to whether you had got as far as installing Windows 7 to the new machine, you replied that you had installed it to the old machine!

6. I asked if you have a genuine image and key, because if you don't, I can fix that with a BIOS update. But BIOS updates are very risky in the hands of someone who does not seem able to follow simple instructions.

 

So I'm trying to get you to focus your mind on the job, as you appear all over the shop.

 

So, since you are so over sensitive, I'll leave you to it. I've given you enough pointers and I don't need to waste more time on an over sensitive ingrate. 

 

Of course we can start again and get the job done. But if you are happy to soldier on by yourself, carry on.

When you are doing the install from a USB device, plug it into a USB 2.0 port instead of a USB 3.0 one on your new board. USB 3.0 drivers don't come with W7. (?)

 

Or install the driver during setup.

 

Or write a .bat and include it into your setup.

 Okay, since you won't leave this alone, let me address a few salient points:

 

1. Re the false trail you are sniffing concerning which 100 series MB link,  I believe that ALL Gigabytes series 100 mainboards require the same drivers.  So I'm not sure why you enmeshed yourself in that issue.

 

2. Please allow "Thaidown" his own say in this if he chooses --

Okay, a bit of logic --  If I had already installed W7 on the new machine, why would I need drivers?

Did you actually check that the Motherboards utilised the same Drivers before posting? In fact they utilise different Drivers and different BIOS even between the Gaming Motherboard to which you linked and the actual Motherboard that you have. You would have done at lot better to listen and follow simple instruction, instead of arguing and getting nowhere. Up to you.

If I am to supply a BIOS update which will allow you to install Genuine Windows 7 with Gigabyte branding, without the need the usual software hacks that take place in Thailand. To do so, I need to know exactly the correct model involved and that you can follow my guide to the letter. A bad BIOS update can render the machine useless. Whilst it can be recovered, that again needs the ability to follow instruction exactly. So my comment about being concerned that you may fumble is not without foundation. So rather than take offence.....FOCUS :) I don't know anything of the provenence of your Windows 7 image, because you didn't reply to that question. Not easy to work with you. ;)

At this point I'm still fumbling about. I'm going to let my mind settle, then start from scratch.

 

I do have a working machine with W7 on it, but it has a number of shortcomings. The new box is to be my "Dream Machine".

 

The GB website has a video of how to configure a flash drive.  I'll watch that a few times and try to make it work. ;)
