Northern provinces promote achievements in handling human trafficking cases

Suwit Rattiwan

CHIANG MAI, 23 September 2016 (NNT) – 30 suspects of human trafficking have been arrested since 1 January this year in four northern provinces. The number of human trafficking cases in the four provinces was 26. Most of them were in Chiang Mai province.

18 of the cases are in Chiang Mai, six in Chiang Rai and the rest in Phayao and Phrae. 22 of the cases involve prostitution.

Deputy Commander of the Provincial Police Region 5 Pol.Maj.Gen. Songtham Anlaphat said the Provincial Police Region 5 had continuously and seriously prevented and suppressed human trafficking with a focus on eradicating child prostitution. In Chiang Mai, there were a number of entertainment venues which organized prostitution with prostitutes aged under 18, said the deputy commander.

Yet another utterly meaningless 'report' about human trafficking without names, circumstances and legal proceeding details.

Have any Mr. Bigs been arrested and jailed since the junta announced its crackdown two odd years ago? No.

I know some 'big' cases are ongoing, but surely some progress has been made and deserves some media attention.
