Marina On Samui?

Featured Replies

thanks, but it was not me that did the work I am just fortunate enough to be involved. And yes this has been done. The local fisherman will have their place within the marina at the end of the klong which will add to the character of the development. Fresh seafood every morning.....

Ok the fisherman are supposedly Ok, what about the rest? My understanding is that there are at least 13 different interested parties that can veto it for various reasons.

do you honestly think a project of this size could be done on this island with all the things that have been happening in recent events without an enviromental study which by the way has been completed or we would'nt be talking

I've edited your post to exclude your comments from the quote box, be sure to type outside the quotes from now on :o

And after living in Thailand for the past 18 years, yes, I do believe that a project of this size could be done without an environmental impact study. Or, if a study was done, it is easily fudged. We are talking about a country that builds dams for the sake of the corruption money someone's brother-in-law can make out of it, so why worry about one little marina?

I have very few illusions about how things are done in Thailand.

point taken, but I am also under no illusions and have also lived here and cambodia for many years and for a change its nice to see things being done in a professional manner which I hope will benefit every one in samui one way or another.

Lets see some proof of your statements that it's being done professionally<and since you don't use capitals in your posts, I guess you're NOT to professional?>Get a life!

Don't take it personally but its just that there has been a lot of talk for a long time and for whatever reason, a marina has not emerged on Samui yet. We tend to get cynical after a while, not because of the current project which may very well bear fruit soon, but because a lot of people have spent a lot of money and effort and got nowhere - even very rich peope with very high level contacts.

It is hard and whoever gets through it all first deserves a good pat on the back, and I would certainly be willing to buy them a beer or two. The issue that you face right now is that you sound as though it is still not 100% there (in terms of the full approvals and designs etc)... and we know that in Samui, not being 100% there means that sometimes you are nowhere... getting that last little piece of paper can be impossible. That is why so many developments start too early thinking that they are nearly there, only to find that becasue they have started building things slow down and money needs to be handed over to get it moving again and sometimes fines come in because things are started without full permits etc etc ... it is unfortunately one of the ways of administrations making money here.

I think therefore that if you have not got all of your approvals signed off in triplicate etc, it is better to stay quiet ... or else you will generate comments from cynics (me included) which may upset you, you may also generate jealosuy that will then transform into someone trying to block that last approval etc. Get your ducks in a row and then start making noises. If they are in a row already - let us all see them as it will actually be a fabulous thing for Samui to have a marina at last.

Maybe then I can get off the beach and go to sea again...

beached whale...

Well said!!!!

the fact that they are planning a marina and even made an enviromenatal study does not establish the fact that they will have a marina.

I have spoken today to khun Lotburri the head of Samui marine police and harbour department.

They dont know anyting about this project....

maybe its not approved yet :o

yes there are 33 available for lease as well as another 15 set aside for villa owners so in answer to your question yes you can just lease a birth

This guy can't even spell what he's selling < Lease a birth?>Maybe he sold Timeshare before this? AND if I'm mistaken I'm sorry, but something is fishy here.

Lot of cons out there, so lets be careful.

even with this 'marina' there will not the facilities to cater for yachts. Sailing boats will have an easier ride, but those with larger engines will have real problems.

Well it looks like there is a marina happening in Maenam. I have seen the signs out for the last few days and there is a significant dignitaory arriving at 11am to be part of the announcement festivities.

Obviously there is still a long way to go as there is nothing yet constructed, but to even to get this far is a great achievement and I congratulate all those involved. Well done and PM me when you want to come and get that free beer.

Cheers

I'm racing in Samui regatta these days and bringing my boat down.

cAN someone confirm how progress for the fabled marina in Samui is moving along?

From what we can see from other sailing areas (Phuket, Pattaya) it seems like Samui is stuck in the Hua Hin type position where sailing is a non starter for the most part.

Any update?

Ken,

If this gets up and running I would really be interested. Particularly if it has water/fuel. Do you see it being competitve with the prices of Petcharat who offer a good monthly deal along with security?

If so I will drop by.
