Ministry, Police to Target Illegal Trucks

The Transport Ministry, the police and military police vowed yesterday to enforce laws which ban the illegal modication of transport vehicles in Cambodia. Speaking at the ministry, Minister Sun Chanthol said the effort stemmed from a declaration last month from Interior Minister Sar Kheng to create a working group to check modified vehicles.
 

“We will go directly to instruct the modification companies not to make any modifications of the points in the law anymore. We need to catch the horse, before it leaves the stable,” he said. He stressed that anyone found to be breaching the law would be fined.
 

He also defended the ministry and police from what he said was criticism on social media that  said authorities were afraid to intervene to stop powerful law breakers. “There are some people saying that it will only apply to the trucks of ordinary people, and there will be interventions to absolve others...all of us are committed that interventions will not be allowed,” Mr. Chanthol stressed.
