Heavy Rain, Flooding Expected Till Monday

Featured Replies

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has appealed again to residents and local authorities to be careful in the event of flooding from heavy rain expected throughout the country from today until Monday. The ministry said yesterday that a low pressure system will cause rain across most of the Kingdom and some provinces, including Tbong Khmum, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Kandal, Kampong Speu and Preah Sihanouk, will face flooding.

The ministry added that heavy rain, especially in the highlands and northern lowland areas, was expected starting yesterday and even heavier rain is expected nationwide today until Monday. “Relevant ministries, local authorities and the public, please pay attention and be careful with flooding that might occur,” the announcement read.

Men Vibol, the governor of Svay Rieng province, told Khmer Times yesterday that more than 800 homes flooded in Svay Rieng City after continuous rain for three weeks, but water gradually began to recede yesterday. “By [yesterday] morning, the water had receded and it may continue to decrease if there is no more rain. We have also taken action to prevent floods and protect against them,” he said.
