Govt ready to accommodate mourners at Grand Palace throughout long weekend

Kitti Cheevasittiyanon

BANGKOK, 23 October 2016 (NNT) - The government has pledged its readiness to accommodate an expectedly large crowd of mourners, who will visit the Grand Palace throughout the long weekend.

Maj. Gen. Sunsern Kaewkumnerd, spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office, said that a large number of people are expected to travel to pay their respects to HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, whose body is lying in state at the Grand Palace.

Maj. Gen. Sunsern confirmed that Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed all related agencies to be ready to accommodate all who arrive.

Meanwhile, the government spokesman has asked all mourners to visit the Grand Palace by public transport while taking advice from officers in the area, particularly those concerning traffic conditions, as roads have been more congested in recent days.

He added that PM Prayut has been concerned with the food supply, which several groups and individual people have been giving away to mourners because fresh food can spoil fast, so he has suggested all concerned try to prepare just enough food for distribution to avoid waste and leftovers.
