Thai Police Arrest Passport Forger

Featured Replies

Police in Thailand arrested a Cambodian national on Friday over allegations he was involved in supplying fake passports and travel documents to Cambodian migrant workers seeing employment in Thailand. According to Chin Lydeth, the Poipet City police chief, Cambodian authorities were informed that 29-year-old Yan Bunthorn had been arrested in Thailand’s Sa Kaeo province in possession of a number of fake passports.

“Thai police seized 23 fake Cambodian passports that had been prepared for Cambodian migrant workers,” he said. “They also confiscated some equipment used to make fake passports, including a stamping machine and screen-printing devices,” Mr. Lydeth said, adding that they also found counterfeit seals of approval from Cambodian immigration checkpoints and visa stickers.

“So far Thai police haven’t sent Mr. Bunthorn back to Cambodia yet,” he said and was unsure when this would happen. Thailand is a popular destination for Cambodians seeking employment, but much of this is illegal or semi-legal.
