TV stations to resume normal operations as of November 19

Starting on November 19, all television stations will be allowed to air their programmes as normal, but the programmes must be free from violent or sexual content or use foul language, said Colonel Nathee Sukolrat, president of the Broadcasting Board of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commisssion, on Friday.

Although normal programmes are allowed to be aired during November 13-18, he said that programmes to be aired must fit for different age groups and must be free from violent or sexual content or which use foul language. Comedy programmes are not permitted during this period, he added.

Colonel Nathee, however, said TV stations still have to air live broadcast by the Public Relations Department about members of the Royal Family or foreign Royalties attending merit-making ceremonies to pay tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

All TV stations are required to include programmes to pay tribute to the late King in their progamme schedules until next January 21.

So in other words they are not being allowed to broadcast their programs as normal

They have tasted controlling the output of TV stations.

They won't give it up now .

Exactly. Little wonder some people are rightly worried that the whole ' back to normal ' after Nov 14 is just propaganda, will be very selective and vary from area to area. There are very flexible guidelines for everything which will be interpreted to suit whoever is enforcing them.

These announcements are for the benefit of the public and tourists so let's wait and see what actually happens.

Until next week, when yet another date will be drawn from the hat.

And I was under the impression that Thailand's IT Thought Police had the violent and sexual content of everything, everywhere (except Patpong, Nana and Cowboy), under control. At the same time, I can't quite understand why the other condition of TV's re-airing is that they must use foul language?

Anyone add to the list?

Soap operas desperately awaited.

Lights in the village go off even earlier for those who can not afford internet.
