I'm 70, and I've had sore knee tendons for a year and have been diagnosed with patella tendinitis by a reputable doctor in Bangkok.

Has anyone here found a treatment that works for patella tendinitis, eg: physiotherapy, massage, stretching, strengthening exercises, etc?

Well I know this is a long shot, but if you don't get any good advice, and it's causing you major grief, you should visit a specialist pain clinic. Just where they concentrate on pain.

I don't know about in Thailand, probable Sheryl would know a lot more, but in Aus the one I went to was Metro Spinal Clinic.

You can get these implants now, (I have one for my back called a Spinal Chord Stimulator), where they create an electronic signal that interferes with the pain messages going to the brain, therefore reducing the pain.

It's not for everyone!

There are now stem cell treatments available that may grow new knee cartridge. It's expensive.

I broke my patella playin cricket years ago and I can imagine your pain.

So probably a good pain clinic....if you don't get a better option.[emoji3]

Us 70 yr olds have to stick together.

The mainstay of first line treatment for patellar tendonitis is physical therapy.  While it can be hard to find good PT in Thailand, you can find the exercises online and do it yourself. Wearing a patellar tendon strap is also often very helpful. If you can't find one in the stores, lazada has them

Or for a better quality one, Amazon

If PT, strap and (if not contraindicated in your case)  anti-inflammatories and time don't do the trick, then surgery or cortisone injections may be considered. . (Cortisone injections will relieve the pain but carry some risks in that they weaken the tendon over all.)
