PM tells farmers not to feel disheartened

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha has appealed to farmers not to feel disheartened but to be patient for better future, assuring that the government will help farmers to be able to stand on their own feet.

The prime minister is scheduled to visit farmers in Pathum Thani province this coming Friday. He will also inspect irrigation projects to observe water management.

He admitted the problem in Thailand regarding water is that only 30 percent of the arable land has access to irrigated water and the rest relies on rains for cultivation. However, he said the government must make sure that all the people, including farmers, must have access to water for consumption at least.

They are not disheartened as they have already come before him to worship and give thanks.

Cheer up! Being dead poor ain't so bad. I will bring happiness to you. Just wait at least 5 more years. There, don't you feel better now?

if the PM wants to score some payback PR all he has to do is say that any  money they recover from Yingluc and Co will be spent on buying rice from the farmers at a reasonable price......PR master piece

keep the feet for dancing

The market is over supplied with rice already.

Now the PM is talking about irrigation why?

Irrigate more land grow more rice, the problem will only get worse.

Better for him to try to encourage less chemical use.

In 5 years thinks will be better, absolute nonsense, things will be just the same.

"He admitted the problem in Thailand regarding water is that only 30 percent of the arable land has access to irrigated water and the rest relies on rains for cultivation."

Having control of your water supply is key.  And having the cheap technology that monitors soil moisture is also important.

I remember my mate lost a load of money at the casino. I said to him "Don't worry, mate. Not the end of the world". He looked at me so angrily, and I swear he wanted to punch me square in the face. I'll never forget that look.

Anyway, point is; sometimes it's best to say nothing. Then again some people love the sound of their own voice.

Oh god, not another number 1 hit by prayuth

he needs a 20 year road map using article 44 to bla bla something bla bla bla.

The sooner this country stops pandering to farmers because of their political clout and regards farming the same as any other business venture, the better off the people of the country will be.

Too many people are engaged in uneconomic activity, many in little more than subsistence farming, yet think they are entitled to the benefits reaped by those far more productive.

Yes, just cast them adrift.

Spoken like a true, hardline, determinist revolutionary, who knows that doing that (to nearly a third of the population) would be a sure fire way to accelerate the destabilisation of the state.

Mixes beautifully with press restriction, suppression of political dissent, and the rest of the ingredients the Great Defender is stirring in.

Drive them further into "other hands" and to resort to “other means”.

Well said Comrade.

The people of Thailand has no faith about you anymore Mr PM. It`s starting to be like North Korea, peopel can not speaking wrighting if you don`t like it then jail time sad bat true.

I just hope I have 5 more years left. Its part of my new 5 year plan so it better happen. The governments 5 year plans always seem to work out. I wonder if the PM will give me a boo at his road map.

Sure is a different story than what I read in the you know which newspaper. It states Prayuth as stating that there is a limit as to what the government can do for farmers. I guess there is a difference in speeches when given face to face rather then voicing them from on high.

Comrade? Are you really that lacking in discernment that you can't tell the difference between communism and pragmatic capitalism?

Strangely enough worked out pretty well for most western countries. Any reason why it shouldn't be allowed to happen here?

So...what's for dinner at your house? Oven baked Chevrolet with a side of steamed electric toaster?

Other than the fact they they are bankrupt and large swathes of people are becoming poorer. Rising unemployment, zero hours contracts, food banks, welfare cuts for the most vulnerable... Yeah, it's working a treat.

Glad we are to the point where people need to be told how to feel. I guess they are just a little put off since in the past, they could choose governments that would have to take their interests into account in order to be re-elected, but now they have to beg and rely on the sympathy of whomever is appointed to prove their munificence by casting them coins in response to their groveling, but who knows?
