REPRINT: Prayuth’s congratulatory letter to Trump

Following Donald Trump’s U.S. election win last week, Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha sent a congratulatory note to the future president. Here’s what it said:

 

Dear President-elect Trump,

 

On behalf of the people of Thailand, I wish to extend my warmest congratulations to you and Governor Mike Pence for being elected the next President and Vice President of the United States of America. Your victory is remarkable and clear evidence that the American people have placed their trust and confidence in you to lead the country forward. I offer you my best wishes and support in this regard.

Can I just stop you there? Presuming to speak on behalf of your nation's people requires a mandate from them. A mandate from messers Heckler & Koch is simply not good enough,  I'm afraid: Too small a margin...
