Election commissioner Somchai is confident he is qualified to stay on

BANGKOK: -- Election commissioner for administrative affairs Somchai Srisutthiyakorn is confident that he has the qualifications as required by the new constitution to serve in the Election Commission.

“I do not speak for myself, but speak on the basis for the whole (Election Commission),” said the commissioner, adding that the charter should not be enforced retroactively in such a way that it will render negative effect on those already serving in the EC and should allow them to carry on with their work until the expiry of their term in office.

Somchai said that he had been serving in the social sector for some 24 years – much longer than the 20-year service as legally required.

He suggested that the new requirements for members of the EC as required by the new charter should not be used selectively for certain independent organizations as this will constitute as discrimination and unfair.

BANGKOK: -- A Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) seminar Wednesday meant to solicit public opinions became heated as Election Commission (EC) members refused to present their version of a new organic law governing the composition and functioning of the commission, saying their draft was nothing like the version the CDC was advocating.

EC commissioner Somchai Srisuthiyakorn, who was apparently unhappy with the CDC’s work, said the CDC should present its organic law because they had written a version different from that which the EC had proposed.

He criticised the law, especially a point regarding the dissolution of provincial election commissions, as unsatisfactory and impractical before adding that everyone should address issues openly without showing undue reticence.

So he has a degree in something or other..!

It's funny how everybody is writing laws on how to stay in office. I guess the PM set the precedent.

I'm going to write a law on how Foreigners can stay in the country, and then post it on Facebook. Hah! It's going to be soo organic! :passifier:

Election Commissioner? That's been a pretty cushy number for the past couple of years!

There you have it right from the horses mouth. A self diagnosis at best. He should have shot a little higher and said he is ready to be PM

Having an EC here is like having a morality committee in a brothel.
