Press invited to Thai armed forces’ tour to inspect border operations

BANGKOK, 23 November 2016 (NNT) - Members of the press have been invited to join the Royal Thai Army in an border management operation luanched in accordance with the royal initiatives of the late HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Rear Admiral Prachachart Sirisawat, Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Joint Civil Affairs, led a group of journalists to get firsthand information on the armed forces’ operations along the country’s border area in northern Nan Province.

The trip started with a stopover at the Civil Police Soldier Monument to pay homage to those who sacrificed themselves to fight for Thailand’s sovereignty, before a visit to the Military Museum in Thung Chang District to pay respect to the statue of King Naresaun the Great. The statue was bestowed by HM King Bhumibol to boost the morale of Thai soldiers.

Then, the group received a briefing on the history of the battle against communists in the province from two of the veterans who also offered them information about peace-keeping operations in the area.

To be honest, it seems as if the reporter, writing in an objective and factual style, is saying the inspection tour was more akin to an indoctrination tour.

Or possibly, the public sector is so wrapped up in oaths of loyalty, taboos and self-censorship, it doesn't realise its own obvious contradictions.

OK reporters, please close your eyes. We will tell you want to write.

Shame they didn't put up a stiffer fight against fascism recently.

So they visited two monuments to events/figures from the past, and received a presentation on a campaign (against PLAT) which ended  about thirty years ago.

Not really an inspection of current border operations then....
