UTTARADIT: -- A RETIREE broke into tears yesterday as he remembered the last conversation he had with his wife, who was one of 18 killed when a passenger bus plunged into a deep ravine in Uttaradit’s Muang district on Tuesday.

“I can’t accept this. We were together for more than 30 years. She was kind and loved making merit,” Paitoon Anuwarn, 63, said at a hospital in Uttaradit province, where his wife’s body was being kept.

He said he had been supposed to pick up his wife Yaowalak at CAT Telecom headquarters in Bangkok on Monday.

I feel for the gentlman !

He's right.  This is not acceptable.  The government, and police, need to go after these crooked transportation companies.

Life is cheap here and safety on the roads is non-existent the carnage is never ending

R.I.P. to the lady and all the others :jap:

another tragedy another day,if its negligence somebody has got to pay.

i have just refused to let my wife go to bkk.on a trip next week,WHY its travelling by night and returning home by night next day.

thats 24hrs.without proper sleep.

OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH YOU ALL. R.I.P.

how horribly sad.

RIP all the victims on this bus.

From the original article:

Quote

The family of each person killed in the accident will be paid Bt800,000, while the maximum compensation for each injured person will be Bt80,000.

Just pray not to get seriously injured then, 80'000 covers hardly more than a broken leg.

One would have thought that such a tragedy that killed 18 people should headline. So why doesn't it?

It did.

The headline (5 dead) was quickly outdated.

The accident made minor headlines in an Australian online paper and one or two in Germany (just what I checked).

German press agency's (DPA) report was reprinted in at least 50 sources in Germany and Austria.

Also in Malaysia, India, Singapore, Franco Canada, Pakistan.

Of course it was big news in Thai news sources.

I would not know where to start!

RIP to the deceased and condolences to the poor bloke in the OP.

A number of insensitive and off topic posts have been removed as well as answers.

Please consider the feelings of those  of those who have lost a loved one through no fault of their own.

I know how I would feel if my wife was on that bus and would no longer be coming home.
