Thailand invites Malaysia for talks on the Bangkok-KL High Speed Rail link

BY BERNAMA

BANGKOK: The State Railway of Thailand has sent a letter to the Malaysian railway authority, seeking to start discussions on the feasibility of a High-Speed Rail (HSR) connecting Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.

Its governor, Wuttichart Kanlayanamit, said the letter was sent last week. "By the end of this week, it will be clear where and when the talks will be held. It could be either in Malaysia or Thailand," he told Bernama here recently.

He is upbeat on the potential of an HSR linking the two capitals.

I hope that the costings will include all those bridges they will need to segregate rail traffic from cretinous drivers.

I would be a bit worried about other stuff going on or might I say OFF in the south near Malaysia :hit-the-fan:

Many bombs and other killing's down there.

High Speed Railways are nearly always

a) elevated on a concrete right of way

B) running on an embankment above the grade

c) fenced off from the adjacent land.

The government doesn't even have proper computers.  Get the basics right first!

This administration seems to have an obsession with "high speed rail links", well, talking about them, at least. Perhaps pricing them up, announcing them to the public, signing MOU's, then sort of backing out, before confirming that everything is ready to go, and finally doing nothing and falling back on the narrow gauge, decrepit system that is reliably 4 hours late.

has the Chinese government given them permission to do that?

Isn't work on the Malaysian side already completed? Just need to work out how to transfer passengers, chicken, somtam carts, etc at this interchange...

Yes, the Malaysian line up to the border has already been built, now just the Thai section to complete, where work to dual-track on various sections is either underway or yet-to-be-started, before suitable rolling-stock is purchased, and a medium-speed metre-gauge service can be operated.

Perhaps a couple of decades ? :saai:
