Sanam Luang also cleared of food foam containers

 

 

BANGKOK: -- Foam food containers have almost disappeared from Sanam Luang while the amount of garbage has steadily decreased as a result of public campaign to reduce trash among mourners waiting to pay tribute to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

 

Environmental Quality Promotion department chief Mr Sakol Thinakul disclosed on Wednesday that the amount of garbage at and around Sanam Luang has now decreased to about 40 tonnes a day from a peak of about 110 tonnes a day in October.

 

Of the garbage, food scraps have reduced to 33 percent of all garbage compared to 38 percent previously while recycled and ordinary garbage have reduced to 32 percent and 25 percent from 33 percent and 29 percent respectively.

 

The use of foam food containers which used to be very widespread has now become almost non-existent following campaign to replace the foam containers to environment-friendly food containers.
