Cambodia: Police Hunt Crude King's Image Maker

Police at the Interior Ministry are on the hunt for a mysterious Facebook user who allegedly created a crude image of King Norodom Sihamoni. General Khieu Sopheak, the spokesman for the Interior Ministry, told Khmer Times yesterday that police believe the image is akin to pornography and “damaged the reputation of the king.”
 

“Expert police are working on this, but there are no results so far,” he said. Mr. Sopheak did not elaborate on any facet of the case and refused to explain what type of picture was posted, who posted it, when it was posted and how police were notified.
 

He said more information will be released when police catch the suspect. Cambodia’s laws on the monarchy are not as strict as in neighboring Thailand, where such an offense would earn a long stretch behind bars.
