BANGKOK: -- The acting abbot of Wat Dhammakaya, Phra Vithespawanajarn, turned himself in to Klongluang police today to acknowledge charges against him,  mostly involving the controversial former abbot Phra Dhammachayo.

The acting abbot came with the temple’s lawyer and a number of monks after he was summoned by the police to hear charges which he has faced in 13 cases, two of which for violations of Article 157, and 189 in providing a hideout for Phra Dhammachayo.

Representative of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) was also present at the police station to observe the abbot’s surrender.

According to police procedures, Phra Vithespawanajarn will be escorted to the  Criminal Court for permission to detain him for questioning.

Smug looking son of a gun ain't he.  I am guessing he knew what the outcome would be before he even stepped foot in the police station.

The fact that the monk was given bail is not so important. Under the thai judicial system, criminal proceedings cant move forward until the defendant acknowledges the charges in person. Now the statute of limitations clock is stopped, and the court case can move forward, even if the defendant is not present.

That is why the big monk (and the red bull heir) wont show up for court.

I've got a feeling that the smirk might be wiped off of their faces in the long run, I think that someone up high wants to put an end to this money making scam.

If you cannot fry the big fish find a smaller one to throw into the pan. Not as much sizzle but it may placate the masses to some extent. It will to some degree help to paper over your oh what is the word I am looking for help me out.

I am sure he prayed all the way. Forgive them Budda for they know not what they do. In more ways than one. I guess the big fish sent in a proxy to test the waters. After a little talk they put the water board away and granted him bail.

Showed talked rubbish, then went home.

All those charges but not locked up why?

Because in this country even people sentenced to death can get bail easily, as we have seen last week
