New Cambodian Ambassador to Thailand

Long Visalo, a secretary of state at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, has been appointed as Cambodia’s new ambassador to Thailand. King Norodom Sihamoni signed the decree legitimizing Mr. Visalo’s appointment.
 

Mr. Visalo could not be reached for comment about his new assignment. In April, Mr. Visalo’s son, former Phnom Penh City Hall spokesman Long Dimache, was appointed as ambassador to South Korea after the former ambassador, Suth Dina, was arrested on charges of corruption.
 

Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Chum Sounry said Mr. Visalo has been working at the Foreign Affairs Ministry since 1979, shortly after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime in January 1979. “In general, ambassadors are appointed for a three-year term, but it can be renewed. It depends on the government,” Mr. Sounry said.
