The government has decided to increase the salaries and family allowances for public servants across the Kingdom from January 2017.  According to a sub-decree signed by Prime Minister Hun Sen on Thursday, the public servants eligible include civil servants, police, military officials, prison officials, National Election Committee officials, judges and prosecutors.

The government changed the unit price of the index of their basic salary from 1,700 riel, or about $0.44, to 1,900 riel, or about $0.48.  When the new rate kicks in, each officials’ salary could be raised at least $12.50 per month up to a maximum of about $27.50.

Another sub-decree also signed by Mr. Hun Sen will see public servants’ family allowances increase from $1.50 to $3.75 for wives and from $1.25 to $2.50 for children.
The children’s allowance would be paid until they reach 21 years of their age.
On the same day, Mr. Hun Sen issued two more sub-decrees to raise salaries for contracted officials from $100 to $125 and $20 for functional allowances for advisors, assistants, secretaries and other officials of equal rank.
