Investment companies were warned on Monday by the Council for Development of Cambodia (CDC) that they must apply for construction permits before starting work. Specifically, the appeal was to companies that had projects which were approved by the government under the “Single Window Service” program.

The appeal came after the Ministry of Land Management, Construction and Urban Planning sent a request to the CDC asking them not to allow investment companies to begin importing construction material for their projects if they have not yet secured the proper permits. “To enforce the law even better, the CDC would like to call on owners of investment enterprises or companies to fulfill the construction permit forms in order to comply with the existing law before implementing the project,” said the CDC announcement.

"The CDC will not take a look at import request applications from projects for construction materials until they get the requisite construction permits from relevant ministries.” Chea Vuthy, deputy secretary-general of the Cambodia Investment Board of the CDC, said he knew nothing about the announcement and was not in charge of the issue.
