Leaving Overground

British national, 22 years old.

I am flying to Thailand later this year (in July), I will be leaving the country overground thus will be unable to give any proof of an onward ticket other than a ticket for a flight out of Singapore (7 weeks later).

Will I therefore require a visa, or can I get away with visa runs (I am unsure of travel plans whilst in Thailand, I will probably be spending the bulk of my 7 week stay in Thailand and just travelling to Singapore to return home).

From what I've gathered so far, visa runs will be fine with Thai immigration, but my carrier (Gulf Air) may not let me board the plane without a visa or onward ticket within 30 days.

Has anyone travelled with this airline and can comment whether they check visas/onward tickets?

Or, do you think it's worth getting a visa to cover my bases. If so, then which visa is required, transit or tourist?

You will need a tourist visa which will be good for 60 days and may be extended for 30. By law you are req. to have outbound ticket but this has never been enforced.

Probably better to get the Tourist visa in advance,

though I agree that the onward ticket requirement is not enforced.

The airlines themselves rarely carry people into Thailand unless they have either a visa or a confirmed outbound airticket.
