Hi,

Can anyone help:

I am wanting to set up the internet TV etc, as I am only staying approx 2 months of the year at the moment. I was thinking of getting a WIFI router for the internet. Pay as you go and top up.

Then set up the TV,s in the condo.

Or can anyone recommend a better way.

Two months is a very short duration, too short for a wired ISP contract.

So, here are some suggestions:

  • Buy a 4G/LTE Wireless Router or Pocket WiFi device and subscribe to a 12GB mobile data package, rinse, repeat.
  • Find a WiFi Hotspot service provider with a strong enough signal to reach through one of your condo windows. Some offer 99 baht/month unlimited data.  Usually only allows one device to connect at a time, but it is possible to set up a WiFi Router that could then share the connection to other devices.
  • Befriend someone in your condo that's close enough that you can share their Internet connection (and offset their cost for 2-3 months). Some devices can make this sharing easier.
  • See if they will let you do a full ISP contract but suspend/hibernate the account for 6 months or more when you're not here.

In a Pattaya condo you can probably get broadband from the supplier of cable TV to your condo. The advantage of this is that they generally dont have a long minimum subscription period.

You can find out who supplies the cable TV in your condo by asking at the front office. Cable TV is often provided by the condo building for a small yearly fee (1000-2000B is common). If the supplier Sophon or TMN then you should be able to approach them regarding broadband. No guarantees though as each condo building can have its own strange arrangements.

On top of all that the condo building itself may sell their own wifi cards and this would probably be a suitable solution for short stays.

You would get better advice if you named the condo.
