Members of the opposition are to boycott a National Assembly session today set to discuss an amendment stripping Kem Sokha of his minority leader status. Instead, they will hold a press conference at their party headquarters aimed at criticizing the amendment.

Mr. Sokha, the acting CNRP president, led a meeting of party members yesterday. Keo Phirum, the deputy secretary of the party’s lawmakers, said the party decided not to attend the assembly session. This was a joint decision made by all of the party’s members, he said.

Son Chhay, a senior figure and the head of the CNRP lawmakers, will hold the press conference on the position of opposition parliamentarians over the amendment and will speak about the party’s next moves at the party headquarters in Phnom Penh today, starting at 9pm. “Mr. Son Chhay will explain in detail about the reason against the amendment and the next move of the party,” Mr. Phirum said.
