Meechai says media control bill appears unconstitutional
By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Charter drafter chairman Meechai Ruchupan said Tuesday that the proposed media reform bill by media reform panel of National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) is deemed violating the referendum-endorsed Constitution.

“In the charter that passed the referendum August last year, it stipulates that press must have freedom in their professions and their right and freedom must be protected," Meechai said.

This guy should do stand up.

He doesn't understand how governments (past and present) work here in Thailand. You simply make stuff up as you go along. I mean, whoever questions you?

That's the scary thing about living in Thailand sometimes. You just never know what is going to happen.

Come on, yes we all do know what will happen, Herr PM is in the driving seat

He said  in principle, any laws issuance must comply with the constitution.

Mighty generous of him.

In who's "principle"?

That said, nice to see him standing up on this issue; why do I think the Junta will be throwing him a retirement party soon?

Is he indirectly suggesting they should alter the constitution?

"He said  in principle, any laws issuance must comply with the constitution".

Mighty rich words. Last constitution was shredded to pieces for him to re-write. It is his camp that are have not being complying precious 18 constitutions. Silly old geriatric.

I agree, I think so. The constitution has already been amended since the meaningless referendum.

I wouldn't be surprised if the draft 2016 contitution is effectively amended by organic law that adds the junta's traditional qualifier -

press must have freedom in their professions and their right and freedom must be protected in a manner consistent with the reputation of the nation and national security.

Now constitutional.

Reads like someone is asking for a VIP-AA session.

The Constitutional Court works in a mysterious way. Even Meechai cautious to say it is unconstitutional.

This whole government is unconstitutional. The changes are a deception to trick the nation. Delays to hold onto power. WE have seen no change is 3 years. I would wipe my ass with that paper. BUT I scared you used cheap nasty paper.

Like always they will just rewrite the "floating" constitution as they are apt to do

Did someone forget to slip Mr. Prayuth a copy? I am sure they will find their way to wiggle around this. Back to the drawing board.
